I was surprised and pleased when three of my friends, each of them mothers with many children (all of them still at home) mentioned they wanted to go back to school. The number one thing each woman worried about first was the GMAT or GRE (or other entrance) exam. If this is on your mind, there is a lot of great news: 1) some schools are now waiving these exams; 2) the practice tests are "rigged" such that you always score better on the real exam than on the practice exams; 3) most schools care more about the essays and the letters of recommendation. I promise. The next thing these women worried about was whether they could "do it" as it felt like formal school was something from the distant past. I assure you, as an instructor, that when I have an older student or a student with children, these students ALWAYS do well in class. I attribute this to the maturity, focus, and desire that these students have. If you are willing to trust me (or reach out for a longer conversation) then I promise that you can do it. If you care enough to find this information, care enough to research and address your fears, then you are the kind of person who will tackle graduate school with just the right mix of hard work and preparation. Let's keep talking about this, but I hope you hear the encouragement I am sending your way.
